Understanding Seat Heights

Seat height is the fastest way to make outdoor seating feel easier — especially when standing up.

Most people focus on cushions, backrests, or style. But if a chair feels “too low”, you end up dropping into it — and standing becomes a push and a shuffle.
A slightly higher seat can change that feeling immediately.

Why seat height matters more than people think

Seat height affects your knee angle, your balance as you rise, and how much you need to “lean and push” to stand.
When the height is right, sitting feels natural — and getting up feels steadier, with less effort.

A good fit feels like:

• You don’t “drop” into the seat
• Your feet sit naturally on the ground
• You can stand without momentum
• You feel stable through the armrests

The 20mm difference

A change that looks small on paper can feel big in real life.
For example, moving from 480mm to 500mm or 520mm can reduce how deeply you bend at the knees and hips — which often makes standing feel noticeably easier.

Think of it less as “higher” and more as “less effort”.

Why “standard” isn’t always comfortable

Many outdoor chairs are designed to look low and relaxed. That can feel nice for lounging — but it isn’t always friendly for everyday sitting and standing. Highty is designed differently. We start with fit — then we match you to a seat height that supports how you actually sit, rise, and move.

We group our seating into clear height bands so you can choose confidently. If you’re unsure, the Comfort Quiz will point you to the right starting band.
