Choose Your Height

The right seat height makes an immediate difference.
It’s the difference between “I can sit down” and “I can sit down comfortably — and get back up without effort”.

A Few Typical Reasons People Choose a Higher Seat

A higher seat is often more comfortable if you:

Standing Feels Hard

You Prefer Stability

If you have specific guidance from a clinician or physio, it’s always sensible to follow that — and we’re happy to work from measurements to help you choose confidently.

Start Here — The 2-Minute Check

You don’t need specialist equipment. You just need a tape measure & a book. When seated, feet should feel stable on the ground, with knees comfortably bent — and standing up shouldn’t feel like a struggle.

Avoid measuring:

  • Rise recliners
  • Perch stools
  • Bar stools
  • Chairs with thick loose cushions

What You’ll Need

Step 1: Measure the Person

  • Feet flat on the floor
  • Knees comfortably bent (roughly a right angle)
  • Back relaxed

Step 2: Sense Check

  • Place a firm book or solid board under the seat cushion
  • Sit down and stand up
  • Add or remove layers until it feels noticeably easier
  • Measure from the floor to the top of that adjusted seat

If in doubt, it’s usually safer to go slightly higher than slightly lower.

Step 3: Between Two Heights?

If standing up is the main problem:

→ Choose the higher option. If feet don’t sit comfortably at the higher option:

→ Choose the lower option (or ask us).

A cushion can help slightly, but it often reduces stability and isn’t the best long-term solution.

When a Higher Seat Needs a Footrest

A higher seat can make standing up feel much easier — but only if feet still feel secure.Simple rule:
If both feet can’t rest flat on the ground comfortably, the seat is likely too high unless you use a footrest.

You may want a footrest if:

Choose something sturdy and non-slip — not a lightweight stool — and position it safely.

Our Height Options

We build to height first. Style follows fit.

Standard (480–500mm)

Best for: Most people comfortable with typical garden chairs.

Feels like: A “normal” seat height — but more supportive.

High (510–530mm)

Best for: Anyone who finds standard seating just a bit low.

Feels like: Noticeably easier to stand from, with less strain on knees and hips.

Extra-High (540–560mm)

Best for: People who need a clearer lift to stand confidently.

Feels like: A big step up in ease — especially if standing is the hardest part.

Bespoke (570mm+)

Best for: When standard sizes won’t be right.

We’ll guide you using one or two simple measurements.

WHAT IF HEIGHT IS RIGHT, BUT COMFORT STILL ISN’T?

Seat height is the biggest win — but if something still feels “not quite right”, these are usually the next levers:

Armrest height

Best next fix for easier standing.

If you’re still pushing hard to get up, this is usually why.

Seat width

Comfort and confidence, especially for repositioning.

If it feels tight or awkward to settle, check width next.

Seat depth

Often the hidden cause of “standing is still hard.”

If you perch or slide forward, depth is likely too deep.

If you’re not sure, just ask — one quick measurement check usually saves weeks of uncertainty.
